George N. Hiskett
George N. Hiskett, age 80, of Lawson, MO, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017, at his home. George was born on Jan. 18, 1937, the son of Ralph and Ruth (Carter) Hiskett in Ray County. During his childhood the family moved to a farm outside of Polo, where he was raised.
George was a 1955 graduate of Polo High School. In 1958 he was united in marriage to Nancy Ayers at the Prairie Ridge Church in Polo. They later divorced. He was a member of the National Guard for several years. George and his family moved to Excelsior Springs in 1963, and he began his 20 year career working at the Kenworth Plant in North Kansas City. In 1978 George married Barbara Hardman in Liberty and they made their home in Lawson. Barbara preceded him in death in 2014. In 1986 he began working for Scherer Truck Equipment in Riverside, until his retirement in 1997. While working full time jobs, George also farmed until 2007. He was a lifelong member of the Prairie Ridge Church. He loved raising cattle and row crop. George had been a motorcycle enthusiast since the mid 1970s. He enjoyed camping with his lifelong friend Paul Alspaugh. George was old-fashioned, and when life slowed down, he truly began to cherish time with his family.
George was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Barbara Hiskett.
He leaves to mourn his passing a sister, Alinda Grant (Curtiss) of Sugarland, TX; daughter, Kathy Campbell (Oliver) of Excelsior Springs; son, Steve Hiskett; grandson, Anthony Hiskett (Trisha) of Olatha, KS; granddaughter, Stephanie Hutson (Jason) of Pleasant Valley; granddaughter, Courtney Hiskett of Olathe, KS; grandson, Tyler Hiskett of Olathe, KS; niece, Lisa (Michael) Cook of Tomball, TX, and niece, Cherie Grant of Sugarland, TX; and great-grandchildren, Kaliegh, Kinslee, Carter, Dylan, Blake and Peyton.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2017, at noon, at Stith Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Polo. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Prairie Ridge Cemetery west of Polo. Memorial gifts are suggested to the Prairie Ridge Cemetery in loving memory of George Hiskett to help with upkeep expenses, and may be left at or mailed to the funeral home at 301 E Elm St Polo, MO 64671.
