Beverly Frances Spohr
Beverly Frances Spohr, age 83, of Braymer, MO, passed away Saturday, Sept. 24, 2016, at home.
Beverly was born Oct. 20, 1932, in Kansas City, to Robert W. and Frances Monk. She was an active child and enjoyed her ponies Punch and Judy. As an intelligent teenager, she graduated high school at age 16 and entered the University of Missouri. She became a lifelong member and participant of the Chi Omega Sorority and was a candidate for queen of the M Men’s Ball. In Columbia she met the love of her life, Carl John Spohr, Jr. They were married on Aug. 22, 1954. She was a teacher prior to being a homemaker and later director of a day care center. During her life she lived in Norfolk, Denver, St. Louis, Kansas City, San Diego, Lee’s Summit and Braymer.
Beverly was a devout and active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints since joining in 1972, serving at times as Relief Society President and President of the Young Women’s Organization. She was an artist and painter, and was a state officer of the Kansas Federation of China Decorators. She was a creative quilter and avid seamstress, enjoyed the Royals and Chiefs, and loved animals, especially her kitty Fluffy and her son’s dog Sammy.
She was preceded in death by husband Carl; both parents; and two grandchildren, Amanda and Jacob.
She is survived by her brother, Robert (Darlene); four children, Paul (Deborah), Amy (Steve), John and David (Amanda); 15 grandchildren; Jeff (Rebecca), Ryan, Jackson, Stephanie (Michael), Jenna, Michelle (Jake), Matthew, Aaron, Joshua, Sean (Kaori), Jessica, Rebecca (Allan), Daniel, Tiffany and Christina; 11 great-grandchildren, Kaden, Kolby, Elijah, Camden, Isaac, Courtland, Elizabeth, Mercedes, Jon Robert, Mahonri, Emma; and also step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sept. 29, 2016, at Langsford Funeral Home in Lee’s Summit, with burial in Lee’s Summit Historical Cemetery. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at 1:00 p.m. on Sept. 29. Memorial contributions may be made to Wayside Waifs, www.waysidewaifs.org. Arrangements are under the direction of Langsford Funeral Home in Lees Summit.
