George Wesley Thornton, Jr., 84, Hamilton, MO., passed away on March 2, 2024, at the Daviess County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Gallatin, MO. George moved to Hamilton 19 years ago and previously lived in Independence, MO., for 30 years.
George was born on December 8, 1939, in Amazonia, MO., to George Wesley Thornton, Sr., and Gertrude (Lueger) Thornton. He grew up in Kidder, MO., and graduated from the Kidder High School in 1957. George was a member of the Painter's Union Local #9 in Raytown, MO., for 50 years and retired when he was 62. He became the financial secretary for the union in the mid 70's.
In his spare time, George enjoyed watching television, especially news shows, soap operas, game shows and "his sports", as well as caring for his dogs, collecting classic cars and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren--all of whom he adored. He also loved to visit Dino's Diner in Cameron, MO., for an early breakfast and friendly conversation with the waitresses there. George was an extremely generous man, and he touched many lives in his 84 years. He will be deeply missed.
Preceding George in death were his parents, wife-Judy Ann (DeVaul) Thornton; son-Wes Thornton; sister-Deanne Reust; and several of his dogs.
Survivors include his daughter-Adrienne Thornton, Greenwood, MO; grandson-Tristan (Shoshannah) Seignette, Hamilton; granddaughter-Arianna (Mike) Stephan, Portland, OR; 3 great-grandchildren-Shania, Amelia and Hendrik; and brother-Gilbert Thornton, Hamilton.
Funeral Service: 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 8, 2024, at Bram Funeral Home, Hamilton.
Visitation: 1 to 2 p.m., 1 hour prior to the service, on Friday, March 8, at the funeral home.
Interment: The Kidder Cemetery, Kidder, MO.
Friends may call at Bram Funeral Home, Hamilton, on Thursday, March 7, from 1 to 5 p.m., and Friday, March 8, at the funeral home beginning at 9 a.m., until service time.
