Helen Marlene (Hales) Mogg, 91, Hamilton, MO., passed on June 17, 2026. Marlene lived in Hamilton for most of her life.
Born on December 10, 1934, in Perrin, MO., to Leo Matthew and Bernadine "Bernie" Louise (O'Connor) Hales, her family moved to Hamilton when she was 3 years old. She grew up in Hamilton and graduated from Hamilton High School in 1953. She worked tirelessly in the family-owned grocery business for decades. Her job at Hy-Klas Foods, and before that, Hales Market, was a pleasure for her. She was known for her friendly smile, upbeat attitude, and desire to help anyone that crossed her path.
To be sure, Marlene loved her hometown! She and her husband, Jim, were members of many local organizations and contributed to countless institutions, events, and functions. Marlene loved sports and closely followed the Penney Hornet football and basketball games. They never missed a Chiefs game on TV, either. They also were rabid stock car racing fans, attending the Daytona 500 for more than 30 years, as well as races throughout the country. They loved to travel and visit places around the globe.
For all of Marlene's varied interests, nothing focused her attention like her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was an unequalled "cheerleader" for every member of her family. She set an excellent example for all of her descendants to follow. Marlene was head instigator of the family text chain and was known for sending messages that ranged from wildly funny to sweet and sincere.
Marlene was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Mary Josephine Mogg; granddaughter, Alisha Ward; great-grandchildren, Michael and Gabriel Hicks; brother and sister-in-law, Dean and Dixie Hales; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Pat and Myers Campbell.
On September 6, 1954, she married James Cramer Mogg at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hamilton. He survives, of the home, and will miss her dearly.
Additional survivors include her children-Steve (Connie) Mogg, Hamilton; Kerry Mogg, Oakdale, CA.; Vicki (Mark) Ward, Hamilton; and Shawn (Denise) Mogg, Merriam, KS.; grandchildren-Amber (Miles) Cathey, Nashville, TN.; Colin (Chelsea) Mogg, Kansas City, MO.; Nicole (Matt) Brewer, Modesto, CA.; Macenzie Mogg, Modesto, CA.; Courtney (Tommy) Richmond, Manteca, CA.; Crystal (Tyler) Krentz, Hamilton; and Amy (Tyler) Templeton, Polo, MO.; great-grandchildren-Maddie, Mac, Ethan, Anna, Elliot, Nora, Makayla, Kadence, Mason, Xander, Braelynn, Taylor, Riley, Hunter (Alyssa), Natalie (Craven), Olivia, Justice, Ali and Aiden; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law Sharyl and Paley Mills, Kimberling City, MO.
Private family services will be held later.
