Karen Lea (Hill) Walker
Karen Lea (Hill) Walker, age 72, of Hamilton passed away at her home on Sept. 9, 2023.
Karen, the first of two children, was born to John Robert and Virginia Lee (Rone) Hill Oct. 4, 1950 in Clinton County.
She married Dennis Glenn Walker June 8, 1968. They had two children - Nesha Denise (Walker) Lapen-Park and Cody Lee Walker, both of Hamilton.
Karen graduated from Penney High School in 1968; received her AA Degree from Wentworth in 1989 and kept the books for the family farm and business.
In 1993, Karen joined Major Molly Chapter NSDAR, served as chapter treasurer since 2002 and had 22 proven patriots of main line ancestors that served in the American Revolution and joined the Walter Hines Page Chapter in England as an associate member in 2010. Her hobby was genealogy - for her family and Caldwell County. In 1996, Karen and friend Marilyn Williams volunteered at the Circuit Clerk's Office in Kingston, to go through 9,217 old Civil Court records that went back to the 1890's, put them in acid-free folders for permanent storage and made an index. She became a life member of the Caldwell County Historical Society in 1999, a life member of The National Huguenot Society in 2003, The Blair Family Society, and The Huguenot Society of America in 2021; volunteered at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cameron with her Major Molly Chapter; was Treasurer of the Highland Cemetery 2001-2022; collected and indexed Caldwell County's newspaper obituaries for The Hamilton Library for many years; and did an index of the Caldwell County, Missouri, marriages for the Recorder of Deeds Office in Kingston. Most of Karen's information is posted on the internet, at The Hamilton Library, the Caldwell County Library, and The Caldwell County Historical Society. She also enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and sewing. Karen crocheted many name doilies for family and friends.
Karen will be welcomed to heaven with open arms by those who preceded her in death; her parents, grandparents, and oldest grandson, Harrison Grant Lapen, 2017.
Karen will be missed by those of us who survived her; her husband of 55 years; two children Nesha (David) Park and Cody (Amy) Walker; grandchildren McCall (Matt) Bodenhamer, Matlyn, Murphy, Losson and Grason Park, Cash and Haley Walker; great-grandchild Milo Finnegan Bodenhamer; brothers John (Mary) Mayes, Belton; Kevin (Jan) Mayes of Smithville; sisters Donna (Greg) Lunnon of Oak Grove; Linda (Keith) Rosewarren of Independence; Lee Fattig; Laura (Dai) Jones-Mayes of Mooresville; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m., Tues., Sept. 19, 2023, at the Hamilton Federated Church, Hamilton.
Visitation will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m., Mon., Sept. 18, 2023, at the Hamilton Federated Church.
Interment is located at Highland Cemetery, Hamilton.
Memorials may be made to Highland Cemetery or Caldwell County Historical Society.
