Lawrence I. McBrayer

Lawrence I. McBrayer, age 96, of Hamilton, MO, passed away on Oct. 1, 2017, at the Hillcrest Manor Nursing Home in Hamilton.

Lawrence was born on Oct. 26, 1920, near Gallatin in Daviess County, to Irving Clarence and Opal Eliza (Linville) McBrayer. He served his country in the Army during World War II from 1944-1946 and was a paratrooper. Lawrence was a hard working man and had worked many various jobs including Mac’s Gas Station (MFA) in Hamilton, the Hamilton Lumber Company, Lake City Arsenal, and maintenance at Lake Viking in Gallatin.

Lawrence was a member of the Hamilton American Legion Post #285 and a past commander.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jack; sister, Eleanor Stackhouse; son, Gerald McBrayer; and two granddaughters, Brenda Kay Adams and Janice Sue Adams.

Lawrence married Frances (Luikart) Gooding on March 5, 1971, in Hamilton. She survives of the home.

Additional survivors include his children, Betty June (Jay) Adams of St. Joseph, Mack (Maggie) McBrayer of Cameron, Susie (Bob) Lund of Hamilton, Terry (Lisa) McBrayer of Flippin, AR, Pam (Paul) McIntosh of Utica, Becky Malone of Cameron, Teresa (Lester) Smith of Brownsville, TX, Debbie (Alan) Ditmore of Fayetteville, NC, Judy (Dale) Evans of Hamilton, and Bonnie (Kenneth) Ford of Kingston; daughter-in-law, Rhonda McBrayer of Kingston; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Cremation has been entrusted to Bram Funeral Home in Hamilton. A graveside memorial service and inurnment with military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 6, at Highland Cemetery in Hamilton.
