Lois Maureen Chalmers
Lois Maureen Chalmers, 82, of Kearney, passed away Monday, June 15, 2026,
at North Care Hospice House in North Kansas City.
Lois was born on October 27, 1943, in Los Angeles, CA, the daughter of Ernest
Floyd and Maurine (Barber) Campbell. She was united in marriage to Tommy Lynn Chalmers of
Waxahachie, TX, on March 18, 1981; he preceded her in death on June 15, 2004.
Survivors include: son, Timothy Lee Chalmers of Kearney; daughter, Lora Ann (Les) Pettigrew of Cedar
Park, TX; two grandchildren: Fancy Bailey and Zachary Rhea; brother, Thomas Edward (Kathy) Culter of
Kansas City; sister, Peggy Clark of Polo; several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
In addition to her parents and husband, Lois was preceded in death by her brother, David Lee Culter.
Lois was born in California while her father was serving his country in the United States Navy. After
his military service ended, the family returned home to Missouri, where her roots remained throughout her
life. She was raised and educated in Kansas City, Kansas, and graduated from Argentine High School.
Lois built a dedicated career in the insurance industry, working as a claims adjuster for many years. She
began her career with State Farm and later continued with GEHA until her retirement.
While Lois worked faithfully throughout her career, music and her faith were what truly fi lled her life. God
blessed her with a beautiful singing voice, and gospel music became one of her greatest passions. Through
Country Gospel Ministries of Branson, she traveled across the United States sharing her love of music and
ministry. She was especially gifted at encouraging and mentoring others and received numerous awards and
recognition for helping welcome and guide new members in the group. Lois also sang with several musical
groups over the years, and those who knew her knew music was never far from her heart.
Above all, Lois loved the Lord and lived out her faith in the way she cared for and encouraged others.
Her kindness, joyful spirit, and steadfast faith will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her family
and many friends.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Country Gospel Ministries of Branson. They
can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 East Main Street-P.O. Box 190, Richmond, MO 64085.
Visitation with funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at Thurman Funeral Home in
