Mary "Martha" Sloan, 90, Hamilton, MO., passed away on March 4, 2024, at Morningside Center, Chillicothe, MO. Martha lived almost all of her life in Hamilton, MO.
Martha was born on November 10, 1933, to Clarence and Ethyl (Peck) Otto. She graduated from the Penney High School in Hamilton in 1952 which was the first class to graduate from the new school and only attend it for their senior year. She started her career as a clerk at the Hamilton Bank, and then was a record and bookkeeper for Harold Henry and his livestock auction and farm. Later she was the bookkeeper for all four of the Esry's IGA grocery stores.
In past years, Martha attended the Federated Church, Kingston, and the Prairie View Church north of Hamilton. She is a current member of the Hamilton Methodist Church. Martha's senior yearbook said that "music was her middle name". Martha served her community and church through her absolute love and talents musically by playing the piano at church and singing and playing for many funerals and musicals through the years.
Preceding Martha in death were her parents and her sister-Ruth Griffin.
On November 28, 1953, she married Richard T. "Ted" Sloan. They just celebrated their 70th anniversary and he survives of the home.
Additional survivors include her son-Clifford (Sandra) Sloan, Camdenton, MO.; daughter-Kelly Sloan, Wilmington, NC; two grandsons-Brandon (Jennifer) McBrayer, Colorado Springs, CO; and Kody (Jessica) McBrayer, Washington, MO. three step-grandchildren-Denise (Eric) Gieseke, Lincoln, MA; Beth (Jim) Sherrell, Macks Creek, MO; and Daryl (Kate) Cunningham, Camdenton, MO; four great-grandchildren-Kaci and Taryn McBrayer; Owen and Parker McBrayer, 7 step-great-grandchildren-Daniel (Emma) Sherrell, Sarah (Ryan) Henslee, Nick (Ivy) Sherrell, Tyler (Carli) Cunningham, Katherine Gieseke, Sydney Cunningham and Caroline Cunningham; and four great-great-grandchildren-Addison, Jayce, Dawson and Hollis; and 5 nieces and 2 nephews.
Celebration of Life Service: 11 a.m., Saturday, March 9, 2024, at the Hamilton Methodist Church Family Life Center, Hamilton.
Visitation: 9:30 a.m. until service time on Saturday, March 9, at the church.
Interment: The Kingston Cemetery, Kingston, MO.
Memorial donations may be made, in lieu of flowers, to the music ministry of the Hamilton Methodist Church.
