Mildred Viola Gilbert

Mildred Viola Gilbert, age 88, of Hamilton, MO, passed away on June 28, 2019, at St. Luke’s Hospital North in Kansas City.

Mildred was born on April 26, 1931, in Gallatin, to Lloyd and Opal (Stephens) Bennett. She worked at the Stride Rite Shoe Factory in Hamilton until its closure, and then Mildred went to work for the Hamilton R-II School District for many years. Mildred was also a homemaker. She was an active member of the Hamilton United Methodist Church and enjoyed volunteering in the church’s thrift store.

On Feb. 11, 1951, she married Marvin Gilbert in Gallatin. He preceded her in death in 1978. She was also preceded by her parents; twin sons, Floyd and Lloyd; daughter, Marcella “Marcy” Darr; brothers, Walter Stephens and Allen, and Charles Bennett; sister, Nancy Bigley; and an infant brother.

Survivors include sons Marvin Gilbert of Sugar Creek and Joe Gilbert of Florence; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren; brother, James Bennett of South Carolina; and sister Shirley Youngs of Cameron.

Cremation has been entrusted to Bram Funeral Home in Hamilton. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 10, at the Hamilton United Methodist Church Family Life Center. Inurnment will be at Highland Cemetery in Hamilton. Memorials may be made to the Hamilton United Methodist Church.
