Richard “Dick” John Beckel

Richard “Dick” John Beckel, Sr., age 94, of Cameron, MO, formerly of Wahoo, NE and Austin, MN, passed away on Nov. 29, 2017, at the Missouri Veteran’s Home in Cameron.

Dick was born on May 12, 1923, in Austin, MN, to John George “Jack” and Stella (Thompson) Beckel. He graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1949 with a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. He worked as the chief mechanical engineer for Hormel.

He honorably served his country during WWII in the Navy.

Dick was a member of the Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Austin, MN, and the VFW.

On Oct. 25, 1947, he married Violet Primeau in Faribault, MN. She preceded him in death in 1985. He then married Dorothy Fischer on Feb. 14, 1998, in Austin. She preceded him in death in 2001. He was also preceded by his parents; sister, Veronica; brothers, Dwain, David, and Theodore “Bud”, and a son-in-law, Randy Emiliusen.

Survivors include his children, Barbara Chall of Wahoo, NE, Beverly Petersen of Nisswa, MN, Mary Lee of Kidder, Carol Schrader of Nerstrand, MN, Judith Emiliusen of Austin, MN, and Richard Beckel, Jr. of Minneapolis, MN; four stepchildren; brother, John Beckel of Baudette, MN; 18 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9, at Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Austin, MN. A Rosary will be held on Friday at 6:30 p.m., Dec. 8, at the Mayer Funeral Home, where friends may call from 4-7:00 p.m., and also one hour before the service at the church on Saturday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Austin, MN. Local arrangements are under the direction of Bram Funeral Home in Hamilton.
