Shirley Sue Curtis

Shirley Sue Curtis, age 78, of Cameron, MO, passed away on Sept. 24, 2019, at the North Kansas City Hospital in North Kansas City. She lived in Cameron for the last 32 years and previously lived in Hamilton.

Shirley was born on Nov. 7, 1940, in Cowgill, to Charles and Eva (Pence) Brooke. She graduated from the Breckenridge High School in 1958. She worked as an insurance underwriter for Cameron Mutual Insurance in Cameron, and she retired from there after 35 years.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Dorothy and Rose Marie; and brother, Leonard Brooke.

Survivors include her son, Doug (Carol) Henderson of Hamilton; daughter, Lisa (Gregg) Coffman of Estes Park, CO; two grandchildren, Kerry (Heather) Evans of Kidder and Blake (Carissa) Henderson of Hamilton; four great-grandchildren, Harleigh and Henley Evans and Leigha and Colt Henderson; life partner, Marlin Hines, of the home; two sisters, Marguerite McCrary of Hamilton and Eloise Gilgour of St. Joseph; five brothers, Bill Brooke and Ed Brooke, both of Braymer, Glen Brooke of Springdale, WA, and Jim and Dean Brooke, both of St. Joseph; numerous nieces and nephews; and Marlin’s children, Doug, Dale, Donnie and Darrell Hines and Jeanie, Jackie and Jill.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 29, at the Hopewell Church in Cowgill. Friends may call at Bram Funeral Home in Hamilton on Friday, Sept. 27, from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Interment will be at the Hopewell Cemetery in Cowgill. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hopewell Baptist Church and Hopewell Cemetery.
