Affirmative Action by Dan Landi

Fellow Americans,

In my last article, Favorites, I explained why I believe Affirmative Action is bad for America. Because Mr. G. Robert Bauer II would appreciate further explanation, I will expound in this article. America went through dark times regarding slavery and racism. It nearly destroyed us. In an effort to make reparations for the sins of our forefathers, the federal government decided to give preferential treatment to black people. Over time, this “minority” group grew to encompass far more than skin color. It now includes sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, national origin, and disability. Consider the following:

· Education: Go to www.collegegrant.org and you will find information on a variety of college grants available to today’s students. Some grants are available to all students and some are available only to minority students, such as African Americans, Hispanics, Native Americans, and Asians. Furthermore, illegal aliens (not “undocumented workers”) are offered in-state tuition to some colleges for the sake of “diversity.”

· Jobs: According to the U.S. Department of Labor, www.dol.gov, the duty of the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) is to, “..…protect workers, promote diversity and enforce the law…..” I know that sounds good for the employee, but what about the employer? What if the employee fits nicely into one of those aforementioned groups, but is not the best qualified person for the job? Where does that leave the employer? I’ll tell you where. In the middle of a federal civil lawsuit if the employer does not hire the protected person! Shouldn’t employers be allowed to hire who they choose based on qualifications?

·Housing: A quick glance at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development website (portal.hud.gov) will reveal how controlling the federal government really is. For example, The Community Reinvestment Act coerces banks to lend money to low-income people for homes they can’t afford! Guess who pays the mortgage when these people are evicted for nonpayment?

Whether you call it quotas, affirmative action, or equal opportunity, it all boils down to favoritism. These programs actually cause tension and division instead of healing and unification. By putting people in certain categories, we become divided. Why won’t the federal government just treat everyone the same? With the right leadership, it will! Please, do your own homework, educate others, and pray for our nation. May God bless you and the United States of America!
