Hamilton School Board report for November

Two Hamilton R-2 board members up for re-election

Christian Dixon from the Penney student council reported that the choir and band are preparing for their winter concerts, the band will go for All-State auditions on Sunday, the dance team will be holding auditions for the winter season teams, and the first boys’ and girls’ basketball game will be in Chillicothe on Nov. 21.

The November MSBA Board Report focused on 2017 MSBA Annual Conference. More than 1,200 school board members and administrators from school districts throughout the state attended this year’s conference held last month. Some of the highlights included speaker Dr. Steve Constantino the author of several books on family engagement, new anchor Stone Phillips, a graduate of Parkway West High School in St. Louis County, and Natalie Hammond, the only adult survivor of the Sandy Hook tragedy that occurred in December of 2012. A highlight of the conference was the student showcase where students from 13 school districts were on hand to present and discuss innovative programs in their school districts such as a robotics program from McDonald County, an augmented reality demonstration from Columbia, and a woodshop and furniture design program from Rolla.

Mrs. Schieber completed the evaluation of ‘curriculum’ from surveys of the staff and rated it a 4 out of 5. A concern is that the State constantly revises the program and it is difficult to keep up with those changes. Recommendation was to continue to place an importance on student achievement and performance.
